General Motors has named Steve Wesoloski as the new road racing group manager for GM Racing.

Beginning this month, Wesoloski will oversee engineering and budgets for GM's motorsports programmes in the American Le Mans Series, SPEED SCCA World Challenge and the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series.

Previously Wesoloski was the GM Racing C6.R chassis engineer for the Corvette Racing team. Also during that time, Wesoloski was the lead GM Racing chassis engineer for the Pontiac GTO.R programme that will debut later this month in the GT class of the Rolex Series. Wesoloski joined GM Racing in 2001 after spending more than 10 years in engineering roles for three generations of Corvette production vehicles.

“Steve has a unique mix of engineering talent and racing experience,” said Mark Kent, director of GM Racing. “His background with production vehicles as well as his engineering contributions with the GTO.R and Corvette Racing, a four-time championship winning team, make him a perfect fit for this position.”

Wesoloski replaces Harry Turner who retired earlier this year and reports to Kent.
