GT1 surprise in first practice
Saturday, 16 April 2005
American Le Mans Series The first official practice session ended with one huge surprise. A Corvette lead GT1 but it was the C5R and at that an old C5R. Ryan Dalziel set the fastest time good enough for seventh overall. The two new Corvettes were next very closely followed by the Saleen and Maserati.
At the front of the field Lehto and Werner continued to lead from Weaver and Leitzinger and then the second Champion Audi. The Fields father and son continue to develop the LMP2 Lola to be fourth in front of the second Dyson car and the Miracle Courage. The top five were within 1.7 seconds.
In GT2 it was the same top four as yesterday, the damaged no51 Panoz repaired for this mornings session and apparently not to much the worse for wear as it was again separated from its class leading team mate, (Liddell setting the time this time) by the Job and Petersen Porsches.
The Courage Mazda failed to set a time reason as yet unknown.
