Italy - Corvette comes 5th overall in Historic San Remo Rally
Apr-11 2005 / 21:27 CDT
The event was from the begining clearly dominated by Toto Riolo / Maurizio Marin and their Porsche Carrera RSR. Second place went to Luigi Marchionni / Adriano Celli in another Porsche, followed by Michele Bigatti / Barbara Adamoli in an Alpine A110. However, the biggest surprise of the event may have been the strong performance of the Swiss Corvette on the narrow and sometimes slippery mountain roads around San Remo. They finished 5th and best non Italian team in this first round of the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship 2005.
Beeler/Posch plan to bring their Corvette to about 6 or 7 events of the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship this year. Next outing is in Sicily for the Trofeo Florio on the original Targa Florio circuit end of May. The Corvette is the most powerful car in historic rallying and is prepared by Chevyracing.ch. It is to full 1974 group 4 specifications, pulling out 500 horsepower for a dry weight of 1220 kg. The Corvette runs on Michelin TB tyres on 10 and 11 inch wheels and gets stopped by EBC yellow stuff brake pads.
