Leighton Reese and the Banner Engineering Corvette involved in mid-race contact that ended his SPEED World Challenge GT Series race at Mid-Ohio all too early.
Lexington, Ohio: (May 21, 2005) Leighton Reese of Minnetonka Minnesota and his Banner Engineering Chevrolet Corvette C6 showed plenty of speed during the opening laps of the SPEED World Challenge Series GT race at Mid-Ohio, but due to contact with Robin Liddell's Porsche Reese's Corvette lay helplessly broken in the middle of the track. Rear Suspension broken by the contact.
"The start was good," Leighton said after the race. "We got some help from GM engineer Kevin Luchansky who helped us out he got our launch control and our traction control dialed in a little better than it had been recently."
"First part of the race was exciting we beat Tommy Archer into turn 3 and then Liddell was on me and we went back and forth for a couple of turns," Leighton recalled of the start of the race. "We were actually faster than Liddell on the long run. We went side by side through three or four turns. Through Madness, through turns 4, 5 and 6 and I beat him when I was on the correct side of the track."
"On the restart the same thing happened except this time I had the inside line on the same corner and he turned in against me anyway and smoked my left inside tire and chopped me pretty hard," Leighton said with a shake of his head.
"After that I was still faster than Liddell was but now I was behind him," Reese recounted of the race. "I was being aggressive and taking runs at him here and there and I let the car roll up on him in that last turn."
"I didn't mean to get into him so I guess I misjudged his speed and hit him," Concluded Reese. "He (Liddell) was being aggressive with me and I was being aggressive with him. I just came out the loser this time!"
The Round 4 of the SPEED World Challenge GT Series at Mid-Ohio will be broadcast on tape delay on Saturday May 28th at 4 PM Eastern Time on the SPEED Network.
