Mowlem looks forward to Road Atlanta
WEDNESDAY 23RD MARCH 2005
Johnny Mowlem will look at the positives as the ACEMCO Motorsports team switches its focus to the second race of the American Le Mans Series after the opening round of the year at Sebring.
Mowlem and regular co-driver Terry Borcheller were joined by Ralf Kelleners for the twelve hour event, but missed out on a podium finish in the ultra competitive GT1 class when an engine problem on the Saleen S7R during the closing stages forced the team to retire.
At the time, the Saleen had been third in class and running in a strong sixth place overall, but retirement saw the team end the race fourth in class having missed out on the final podium place to the Corvette Racing team.
“Up until then the car didn't miss a beat and the race really came back to us,” Mowlem said. “We were trading second place in class every hour at the end, but the engine was 30-minutes short.
“We know now that everything the lads did in the shop during the winter worked. We were having a terrific race at Sebring and our planning and pit work were impeccable. All of us are looking forward to the race at Road Atlanta.”
The Road Atlanta round takes place from 15-17 April.
