OLIVER GAVIN - MARATHON MAN!

Every professional racing driver finds his own way of keeping fit. Some spend hours in the gym; others do a great deal of cycling, while running forms a major part of any fit person's training campaign. Not all, however, are capable of running 26.2 miles (42.195 km).

Briton Olivier Gavin, who races for the Corvette Racing Team in the American Le Mans Series, will this weekend be taking part in the Paris Marathon with a very particular aim in mind.

"James Thomson, last year's British Touring Car Champion, is a friend of mine and, like all racing drivers, we are highly competitive in everything we do. James did last year's London Marathon in a time of 3hrs 19m 32s and that's what I'm aiming to beat next weekend.

"He is going to be doing the London race again next weekend so it will be interesting to see how well we compare. It's a shame we won't be able to actually run in the same Marathon but our [motor] racing commitments don't allow that."

This will be the 2nd marathon in which the 32-year-old has competed, the first being the 2002 London Marathon which he finished in a time of 3hrs 27m and 48s, and which he ran in support of ARC, a British arthritis charity.
