1992 and 2004 Portland Trans-Am winner Paul Gentilozzi can win his third Trans-Am race here, and his second in a Rocketsports Racing entry. Gentilozzi won in 1992, driving George Robinson’s Chevrolet Camaro and in 2004 driving a Rocketsports Jaguar XKR. That win would move Gentilozzi out of a tie for first in all-time victories. Gentilozzi tied the record, previously held by late Trans-Am legend Mark Donohue, with his 29th career victory, in 2004 at Denver. The win would also move Gentilozzi into a tie with Ron Fellows for the most wins at Portland. Fellows won here in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Gentilozzi also competed here in IMSA GTS competition, posted a third-place finish in 1986 and fifth-place finishes in 1992 and 1993.

A Rocketsports Racing win here would be the fourth for the East Lansing, Mich.-based team, breaking a tie with Roush Racing as the leading entrant winner in Portland Trans-Am competition. Rocketsports won in 1990 with Darin Brassfield and in 1991 with Irv Hoerr, each driving Oldsmobile Cutlass entries, and with Gentilozzi in 2004 in a Jaguar XKR.

Greg Pickett, who won here in 1984, driving a factory Roush Racing Mercury Capri, is seeking his second Portland victory. A Pickett win would also make him the first Trans-Am driver in history to win a race in each of four decades of competition. Pickett can also win his sixth Portland pole.

The last four Portland Trans-Am races (1994, 1995, 2001 and 2004) were won by four marques (Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Viper, Jaguar XKR).

A win by a Chevrolet Corvette will be the model’s first win here since 1979. Ford’s Mustang last won here in 1994, while Chevrolet’s Camaro recorded its last victory 1995, and Dodge’s Viper recorded its sole victory in 2001.
