No cold weather tires?

Hi All,
Is it true that the tires are only for summer use?
I'm in Va. We have freezing weather from Nov. thru April.
Do I have to get two sets of wheels ?

The whole Summer-Winter tire thing is a little overblown. While the Vette does not have a "all season" tread, I'm not sure if it makes a difference. Many all season tires are terrible in even mildly bad Winter weather. The C7 comes with a nice meaty tread, that is pretty great in the wet, and the Vette has never been a Winter ride of choice, so we have lost little. The last generation of C6 Goodyears were pretty bad year around.

There are "all season" tires available for Corvettes and some are speed rated at W (168 MPH) and Y (186 MPH)

Here are a few to get you started:
BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S
Continental ExtremeContact DWS
General G-MAX AS-03
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP (run flat)

These fit my C5, but there are A/S for others. I don't know about Virginia, but quite a few states require A/S or M+S tires in bad weather. Which is meaningless unless there is an accident.

Go to Tirerack, discounttire, and others to read the reviews. When you have them balanced, as it simulates weight, I recommend the Hunter Road Force balance. Just ask if the installer has a road force balance.

Personally, as I have a 4WD truck and hers is a AWD, I don't drive my Corvette in snow.

Clarification needed

I quote from the Covette/14 brochure "Do not use summer-only tires in winter conditions, as it would adversely affect vehicle safety, performance ....."
if the car only comes with summer-only tires, it sounds like we have to get a set of wheels for cold weather driving , not snow per se.

More info needed

Thank you for all the info. See my post to catbert.

Most summer rated tires are not to be used safely under 45*F. All season tires are rated to be used at temperatures below 45*F and are not just for rain or snow, but for temperatures below 45*F. There are a lot of nice days that are below 45*F in my area, so I chose all season Michelins for the temp rating, not for rain or snow. :)
