Help! no power at all

my wife and i were out for a drive and pulled up to a store. went inside and came out about 30 minutes later. when i went to start the car it turned over but my finger slipped off the key so i quickly turned it again...very fast like was a double clutch is the best way i know how to describe it. when i turn it the second time absolutely nothing. no clicking no signs of a dead battery just no power at all. i tapped the starter and checked all battery connections everything is solid. before i take it to the shop can anyone help me.
