Im having a problem with a no spark condition on my 1974 . The car has a Mallory Dual point distributor. I checked the positive side of the coil for power (with a test light) and it has power. The negative side (lead going to distributor) does not have any power. Is the negative side of the coil supposed to be hot when the car is cranking? Any help would be greatly appreicated...thanks, Mike

If you turn your engine by hand your test light should go on and off, depending on the points position. It will be hot when the points are open. Have you checked both points? If one of them is closed you will not get any spark.

In the same vein as what 69 coupe says ... one or both sets of points are probably not opening ... if one or both does not open it will not start nor run. Also, the wires from the point set(s) may be accidentally going to ground ... that'll kill ignition as well.

BTW, (if need be) you should be able to run the dual point dist with only one set of points ... so long as you have it wired for one set and increase the dwell angle.
