I replaced the IAC in the vette the other day and had very little time to check things out, but I got home from the cottage last night and went to start the car and Click, power everything except a vrooom vrooom.

After I got the IAC installed I started the car and she started right up, I shut er down and left it for the weekend, and now no start, there is a strange sound when I turn the key, kind of like a sizzle or short behind the dash..

Could this be VATS related??

Mart

This noise is not the normal sound of the fuel system being pressurized? UR sure the sound is under the dash? The VATS is behind the 'breadbox'.

:w

I just went out and tried the car again and it's still doing it, full power to everything but there is a buzz or a really fast clicking sound from behind the breadbox or certer console area when I turn the key completely.

Does the engine turn over?

Battery seems fine, it's reading full.

All lights, dash, radio, everything works, turn the key and one click from under the hood, not the starter, sounds like it is from the top of the engine.

Check the positive battery terminal block behind the battery. Remove all the terminals, clean them up with wire brush and some WD40, reinstall with some electrolytic grease.

:w

I disconnected the VATS wires tonight (I think) and put the correct resister in place, does this look right???

I am working putting a switch in, on top of this.

Well I have had it, the VAT's resister did'nt work, this morning I went out and once again turn the key and all lights come up and one click under the hood, and nothing.

I'm open for more suggestions?????

Waaaaaa, it's great outside the the Freakin car won't start. All this trouble after installing a new IAC..

Couple thoughts. If you have checked the connections as mentioned above, the next thing I would do is check the BIG ground piont. It's pretty much below the windshield wiper motor on the dr. side of the block, above the oil filter, 5/8 or larger nut on side of block. Make sure it is tight. Then I would check all starter connections, then the starter itself. Hang in there, we'll get it :w

From there, I think other ground points and fusable inline links may be the next step.

Have the battery checked under a load. I've seen batteries which "looked" good with a meter and a hydrometer and under a load, it wasn't worth a warm bucket of spit.

Better yet, if you have a spare battery that you know is good (in another car or something), try starting the car with it.

OK, got right into it tonight, checked all voltages and everything seemed fine.

Disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes, then tried again and up she came. yahoo :_rock

OK, so I go and set min idle check the TPS, everything is OKEE DOKEE, so I disconnect the EST wire, and start it up and set the timing, shut er down, plug the EST back in and, &^%*&)*$^%$%$#%.

The Freakin thing won't start same problem......:mad

I just disconnected the battery and closed the garage door for 20 min and here I am really PO'ed

Well I connected the battery again this morning and nothing, back to a no start condition, only when I turn the key she lights up dash and everything, turn it again and nothing, no lights or anything, turn it again and click under the hood, and so on and so on........

The car is possessed, time to sell.

I seem to recall a post about the EST harness shorting out or wires coming loose. Perhaps that is the problem. Maybe you have a dead connection. Try jiggling the wires while trying to start and see what happens. Just a dumb suggestion but who knows. Also you might have CAC memeber (Saint) Patrick send you a blessing and perform a cyber exorcism.:D

Won't the car start with or without the EST connected though, on the other hand that is the only thing I did both times that was right before the eratic no start condition.

Thanks

Supposed to start but it would seem there is a disconnect in the wiring somewhere. Since this is the last area you worked on that's where I would start. Perhaps the harness going to the starter might have gotten bumped and shorted. Have you checked for power at the starter with the key in the start position? If it is dead then it has to be between the key and starter. These are just suggestions and by no means am I an expert on electrical systems in these cars. But, if the Starter is not getting any juice then it has to be a disconnect. Is this an automatic? They have a neutral safety switch which will not let power go to the starter unless the car is in Park or Neutral. Try jiggling the shift lever ot putting it in neutral when you try turning it over. (I think if it is a stick it has a safety swtich on the clutch pedal that is activated when the clutch pedal is depressed.) Could be if it starts the switch needs adjustment.

Thanks Vette-dude, on other thing about this, the last couple of times I tried it I would turn the key and get the wierd buzzing sound from behind the dash. that would not stop, when I put my foot on the brake it stopped, (Very Wierd).

I hope this is nothing more serious.

And yes it's an auto..

On the way home tonight I stopped at my local dealer and had a new key made, got home and tried it, :mad Still does'nt work.

Started checking the connections, the ones I had monkeyed with to start, I pulled the NEG battery terminal and cleaned the hell out of it, put it back on, and BINGO. Fired up.:W :D :_rock It was pretty dirty.

I sure hope that is actually the problem, I am going to try pulling it off and and cleaning them all really well, then see if it starts again.

Thanks Guys....:beer

Does anybody know which wires to test on the TPS, I cant seem to get any reading, maybe this is the cause of my searching RPM idle....Got a new TPS on order, coming in tomorrow.
