Went to fire up my 86 coupe this morning and you guessed it, Nada. Fuel pump comes on, pressure is good , no fire at plugs, Cranks at good pace for a few seconds then drags and my dash goes crazy (WTF)? New battery no help. No codes being displayed. Coil checks good, Distributor module? ECM? VATS?(doubtful) I can't figure this one out. It ran great yesterday. Anyone had similar problems? I love my vette, but this is ****ing me off. Any help would be great.

A great place to start with something like this is the Fuse Junction Box underneath the battery. 8 main wires all tied together at a bus needs to be throughly cleaned and made sure all wires are nice and tight. Put corrosive sealant on each connector when putting back together. This will save a lot of headeaches and might cure your problem....

how did you check the coil? how do you know it's good?
dist module is likely if the coil is good.

make sure the main ground braid is in good shape.

New Distributor Install Well... Duh?

Ok. Bought a completely new Performance Distributors setup. I followed the GM service manual instructions. Felt compression on #1 Cyl., Align timing pully mark to 0, Installed distributor so rotor pointed between #1 & #8 on dist. cap , button down distributor, reconnect all the goodies and .... NO START too far out of time apparently to even run. Anyone got experience installing these things from the "reset timing if engine is cranked with distributor out" .It tries to run, but seems to be too retarded.. or maybe I'm the one that's retarded. Anyway PLEASE HELP!;help

How did you test the spark. For HEI, you MUST ground the plug. If not, you can ruin the module.

Loosen distributor cap and move cap CCW. This will advance timing. Only move cap about 1/2 inch at a time. Each time try to start engine. Once you can start it. Shut down and connect timing light. Start and set to 6 deg BTDC. Tighten cap and recheck timing.

Good luck.

Fyi!

Ok, This is hard for me to admit, but, If you don't plug the distributor in, it won't work.;LOL Yeah, I got in too big of a hurry. Anyway my baby runs great now. I feel like I just won the lottery. The D.U.I. Performance Distributor is great. I could tell a lot of difference with the butt dyno. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing to replace one. They get all of your engine info i.e. cam, compression, airflow and so on and custom curve it to maximize performance for your setup. Ok I know I'm just rambling on now , but I had to share this. I love my vette.
