hi there all!
how are you all!
thanks for all your help and posts to my questions guys, i really apprecaite it very much!
i have noticed lately that when i go to shut down my headlights on my 1991 vette that the left hand side makes a humming noise for 7-10 seconds as it is closing down!
what could this noise be?
but it only does it when cloing the lights down!
the headlight works ok up and down, just makes this noise now!

could it be a stripped gear?, or derlin bushing may be?

any other ideas what it could be?

and how to fix it?

any rough cost idea to fix the problem?

thanks for reading guys!
cheers glen

It's probably the bushings. Had the same problem with my 88. It's not a bad job. First one took about an hour but after I figured out what to do the second one took about 20 minutes. Go ahead and do both because if one is bad the other isn't far behind. The bushings are sold by most catalog places such as MAD, Corvette Central or Ecklers.Good luck.Ron"Baldie88"

hi ron,
thanks for the info mate!
i will check it out soon!
is it worthy while replacing the gears with bronze aftermarket gears at all?
thanks glen

Glen,Can't answer your question about the gears. All I did was replace the bushings in mine and it fixed the problem so I didn't go any further. My 88 still has the original gears so they haven't been a problem for me, at least so far.Good luck.Ron"Baldie88"

I wouldn't suggest the bronze gears. If you had an obstruction while closing, the stock gears will give, the bronze ones most likely wouldn't. Unlikely it would happen, but I wouldn't want my finger to be caught. GM used a grease in the stock configuration that breaks down over time and turns to powder. (this is what the bushings replace in the rebuild kits) Yours is probabally starting. The motor is continuing to run on shut down 'cos it doesn't know it has reached the stop point.
