I have a '74 Stingray. There is a noise in the speedometer that I would describe variously as a howl, or a squealy howl..........If I stop the car, then start again, the noise will stop for awhile, then start squealing again and the speedometer needle will jump crazily all over the place, up to 100 mph. Any hints or tips? Thank you.

It could be as simple as lubing the speedo cable :) it may be binding up. the worst case senerio would be the bearings in the speedo head:ohnoes and it would need to be removed for repair
