I just obtained a 2000 coupe with 14k Thursday night and was very, very happy. Tonight I'm hearing what sounds like a throwout bearing noise begining at about 80% of the clutch engagement and into full 1st gear. It doesn't seem to sound off in any other gear.

Does anyone have an opinion as to what this may be? It's a beautiful machine, but I have a 5-day full bring-back guarantee if I don't want it...which I don't if it has to go in this early.:mad

that's a common noise. i know how you feel, it bothered me a lot when i first got mine, and i took it to the dealer for and left it for a week because i thought something was wrong.

about every month or so, someone gets a new manual C5 and posts the exact question, so don't feel bad.

just give it a little more gas when taking off from first and you won't get the noise.

Whew!

Man, what a relief...I guess I was too excited the first few miles to notice it. Thanks very much.

By any off chance does the noise sound like it is comming from the left rear and happens between 800 and 1000 RPM?

No, it sounds like right about center at the clutch/transmission. And, only in 1st.

Ok, much thanks...after playing around today I feel much better. A friend says the mustang does the same thing. I said, "what's a mustang?"
