I have a new 2006 Z06 and it has considerable 1st gear takeoff "whine/rattle". Functionality seems normal, I've heard the 1st gear noise is normal but would like to see if others with 6 speed manuals are experiencing the same.

Thanks,

Wade Haines

Wade, I have experienced exactly the same thing in my base C6. I thought it was just the way I was taking off. I've noticed that the only way to avoid it is to either (1) have some tiny intial forward motion already, or (2) draw the clutch release out longer while giving a bit more gas than I normally would. I've only got 700 mi on the odo, so I'll have to see how it goes further down the line.

the C5 has the same noise, its normal and is even mentioned in the owners manual I seem to think the rattle is even on a CD or DVD that comes with the new car manuals.

Over 2,000 miles on my 05 late production C6 coupe and never had the 1st gear noise that my 99 or 02 had.

My 2006, built on December 15, is smooth and quite in engaging first gear. No problems getting it from a clutch-out neutral into first gear, either. Only have about 600 miles, on it, though.

in my 05 c6 the i have switched to a breathless performance shifter but the only noise i have heard is up around the 5k range when i am really gettin on it
but other than that no noise at take off or through the mid range i have bout 6500miles on the odo

I have a new Z06 and my wife has a new coupe--neither have any particular noise with 1st gear. They both have a little more engine noise (lifters?) than the C5 Vettes we have. My car also has a slight mid-RPM rattle somewhere deep in the dash--frustrating.
