Noland Adams restoration guide

Guys,
Looking for feedback on how useful y'all think Noland Adams book is for the average guy who wants to do mechanical repairs to his 67. Does it give good accounts/pictures/directions on things like: r&r battery, door panels, simple engine jobs (tune ups, carb removal, etc).
How handy is this book for an owner or is there a better one out there?

If you're talking about the coffee-table-sized, hardcover books Noland has done on C1 and C2 and answer is no.

Those books contain no maintenance information at all.

The best choice is the factory service manual. The second best choice are shop manuals from Haynes and so forth.
 
The A .I.M the Factory service manual, and one of the restoration books would be better

Hey Dennis

haven't heard from you in a while.

well, BABY has been running fine for about the last 2 weeks or so after getting my neighbor to get the timing issue and idle issue better. Still not perfect but better than it was. Also had the main rear wheels bearings on both sides replaced and needed a new 4-wheel alignment as half the rear shims fell out - must not have been put in correctly the first time.
Of course, after running fine after all this work she started giving my more idle problems again 2 or 3 days ago that seems to come and go. I think the plugs may be getting fouled as it seems to clear up if i give her a short high RPM run - it clears up for a little bit than idle problems return and she sounds rough so I give another short high rpm run and it clears up again, and continues.
Linda and I are leaving very early tomorrow morning for a quick 3-day trip down to Disney in Fl so i'll look at the plugs after I return (like i'll even know what i'm looking at after I pull one anyway LOL)

Have you seen or heard from Rick and how he did in Canada at the show?

Thanks for the straight-forward answer, Hib. I'll check out Haynes.
Just trying to get myself back in this game after a 10 year layoff and I've found I can always get the straight skinny in here.

I would not go with Haynes. Get reprints of the GM service manuals that were used in the dealership and a copy of the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) that was used in St Louis. Another good book if you would like it to look like it did when it left St Louis is the NCRS Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide.

Most of the vendors have them or you can get them from the NCRS at the following link. Look down the page there are a number of reference books on this link.

What plugs are you using? Sounds like a classic plug-fouling issue. If they're AC 43 or 44, they're too cold and will foul in normal driving; I use AC R45S in all my small-blocks and have had no fouling issues (even in my '57 2x4, and they're notorious for fouling).

Agree with Daves65. THe Haynes Manual is crap. Try to get the GM Maintenance Manual. Much better, more detail and exakt information on your year.
 
The Noland Adams Restoration & Technical Guide - Vol. 2 is good for facts and figures and photos of how these cars looked coming from the factory. It's of little use in actually repairing your vehicle. Spend your money on the factory manuals suggested in earlier posts and you'll have the info you need plus you'll save a lot of $$$.

P.S. If anyone out there wants a slightly used copy of Mr. Adams book, let me know. I've got one I'm willing to part with!
