Has anybody made a center console that is 'functional'? All I can find are padded armrests type consoles. I would like one that would open up so I could store a few things. Marketing op?

Yeah, i havent seen anything there either, but is there even room for something like that ? Because of the handbrake, you're left with only a small area... Dunno..

PS: You've seen the bottle holder, that 'hangs on' the brake right ?

I think it would be about as big as the unit in my Toyota pickup. Good place for tapes, sunglasses, etc. It just seems to be a waste of space.

Yeah, I've seen an aftermarket one at Ecklers PN 37619. $150 ish :pat

Says, it's for 1968 to 1976... Guess, thats why i never found that one.. $154.99..

Are the consoles that different between say a 76 and a 82 ??

they are different, I think they changed in 77 - at least that is when the center instrument cluster and center shift console changed. So I would suspect the brake console changed at least a little bit also.
