The short version....
The 64 has a 70 's ish 350 in it now...
Im putting the " correct " Bellhousing, flywheel 153 tooth and 10.5 clutch....
Is there a difference between the starter motor pinion gears?

Thanks

Mike

They are the same, there are two different size flywheels and one starter for each of them, the differece is the offset. further out - larger flywheel, further in - smaller flywheel. Hope this helps.

Cheers

So it's the nose of the starter ?

To whats the give away... offset bolts in the casting are " norm " or 168.... and parallel is 153 ?
And I found this..... on a " racing starter "
These starters fit straight bolt pattern blocks ONLY! If your starter bolts to the bellhousing, then this will NOT work. If your starter has a staggered pattern, this will NOT work. Most blocks have both straight and staggered patterns, check to be sure before ordering.
These starters will fit Small Block Chevy or Big Block Chevy, Automatic or Manual Transmission with a 153 or 168 tooth flywheel. They come complete with bolts and a shim kit.

Thanks
Mike

For conventional Delco starters, if you have a 153-tooth flywheel, you need one with an aluminum nose and the two bolts directly across from each other; for a 168-tooth flywheel, you need one with the bolts diagonally across, and a cast iron nose. :thumb
