This is one sweet ride and FAST!!

well they say a little bit of ugly goes a long way,i guess so,
the previous owner of my vette had one of those blower filters sticking out of the hood. p.s. anyone know where i can get a 75 hood without the speed- holes cut into it?? mike

Although I never had a blown Vette, I have some experience with the subject. I had a 78 Trans Am with a Chevy BB 402 (396 + .030) and a Dyers 671 with dual 750 Carters. The engine stuck out of the hood 11.5 inches... that caused a problem. The cops would pull me over just about weekly. I lived in Wisconsin at the time, so the laws in other states will vary. They would bring up one of two violations: 1) "It was an obstruction of view", or 2) "You are not allowed more than a 3 inch protrusion from the hood". On the first case, state law was you must be able to see tip of both fenders. I would ask the Officer to sit in the car and see if he could see my hood pins, which they could. They would then turn to violation number 2, and remember that thing stuck out almost a foot! I would then quote the law and ask them where there is a 3 inch protrusion "FROM MY HOOD"... there wasn't a protrusion "FROM MY HOOD", as a matter of fact there was a hole in the hood. Now had I put on some sort of snorkel scoop, that actually attached to the hood, they would have had me.

I just wanted to post this as word of caution to make sure you know the laws better than the cops (that WILL stop you) before embarking on such an absolutely wonderful endeavor... nothing in the world like the sound of a three-inch drive belt running from the balancer and spinning two turbines! After a while, they just tended to pull me over and have me raise the hood to look. They like a great car when they see it as well...

Not sure if the picture posted by Red69 has a real fuel injector on top, most I saw were just simply an air cleaner that was designed to look like a real fuel injector. If it's real... IT'S HOT!

madvette74 I too have had experience with objects sticking out of the hood on another vehicle. I had a 69 Nova 350 SS with a 10" high snorkel and like Fishman, the cops would pull me over weekly for the same violations. And this is in Ontario, Canada. In addition, every time I got caught in the rain, I'd drown my carb from the ramming water. Not only that, but after a while, such a protusion, if it's fiberglass, tends to start cracking do to wind resistance and vibration. If I were to do it again, I would stick to the hole in the hood and a carburator type intake/ram like the pics above.

I've got an extra '74 hood. It needs strip/fill/ paint (previous owner walnut blasted, and used too high of pressure). I've also got a 75 rear clip... in same condition.

I drove the car in the rain several times... the funny thing is that the engine would often seem to run a tad better with a little water injection. As I recall, there were even some after-market water injection kits out there.

HI

Mine is fairly modest compaired to the blower cars in the pictures and for me it was almost out of nessecity as I had problems getting a decent sized air filter under the hood after fitting the AirGap intake.

I have never had any problems but over in the UK you are not supposed to have any objects sticking out of the hood that might cause injury to a person should they be stupid enough to walk in front of you as you drive past. When I built the engine I did have a look at a blower but it would have been impossible to drive it in the UK, it`s difficult enough as it is with the steering on the wrong side and you wouldn`t get far with a blower sticking though the hood.

On the odd occasion I have driven it in the rain it was ok but I got caught out in a downpour one day and had to pull over, I think mostly it was water getting onto the HEI though rather than in the carb.

One minor thing you should consider is that the engine in a Vette is not in the middle of the frame, it`s offset about 2" to clear the steering box and I was almost caught out as I marked up the hood off the car with the cut out in the center. It`s not to noticible but if you look closely at some of the pictures you will see it.
