Although I never had a blown Vette, I have some experience with the subject. I had a 78 Trans Am with a Chevy BB 402 (396 + .030) and a Dyers 671 with dual 750 Carters. The engine stuck out of the hood 11.5 inches... that caused a problem. The cops would pull me over just about weekly. I lived in Wisconsin at the time, so the laws in other states will vary. They would bring up one of two violations: 1) "It was an obstruction of view", or 2) "You are not allowed more than a 3 inch protrusion from the hood". On the first case, state law was you must be able to see tip of both fenders. I would ask the Officer to sit in the car and see if he could see my hood pins, which they could. They would then turn to violation number 2, and remember that thing stuck out almost a foot! I would then quote the law and ask them where there is a 3 inch protrusion "FROM MY HOOD"... there wasn't a protrusion "FROM MY HOOD", as a matter of fact there was a hole in the hood. Now had I put on some sort of snorkel scoop, that actually attached to the hood, they would have had me.
I just wanted to post this as word of caution to make sure you know the laws better than the cops (that WILL stop you) before embarking on such an absolutely wonderful endeavor... nothing in the world like the sound of a three-inch drive belt running from the balancer and spinning two turbines! After a while, they just tended to pull me over and have me raise the hood to look. They like a great car when they see it as well...
Not sure if the picture posted by Red69 has a real fuel injector on top, most I saw were just simply an air cleaner that was designed to look like a real fuel injector. If it's real... IT'S HOT!
