Anyone here running an oil accumulator? Seems like a good idea, to me, but it's also additional complexity and expense. Is it worth the trouble?

Not something I'd do right now, anyway, but while I have the oil system apart, I could install a fitting with a plug, if it's something I might want to do in the future...

Unless you have a turbo it's not worth the trouble.
Get a PF932 oil filter it's a 2 qt. it will help with filtering and fit's above the oil pan. PF25 is 1qt., PF35 is 1 1/2 qt.

I'm already planning on a 2-quart filter. Since I'm installing a remote filter mount, it's a natural thing - no worry about any clearance problems at all.

My basic thought with the accumulator is the ability to attach a solenoid valve and use it to store pressurized oil when the engine is shut off, and use that pressure to pre-lube the engine at start-up.

The pros seem to be the protection against oil starvation in hard cornering (especially a concern, I think, with the low-capacity oil pan in C3's), and the use as a pre-lube system.

The cons seem to be cost (not huge, but not small, either), complexity, and the risk of over-filling the pan if the solenoid valve leaks oil down (either due to a damaged valve, or if the engine does not start for some reason).

I use all Royal Purple product's in my car. I have a kill switch on my dash, I first turn it over once or twice for about 5 sec. first to get pressure, usually about 20 PSI, It sound's like there are no plug's in it ,from lack of friction and almost at 12.1 compression. It's also a small block 427 motor.
The rear end lub took at least 90% of the gear noise away.
You can add a baffel to the oil pan to keep the oil near the pump.
No I do not have anything to do with the sale's of the oil product's, just a satisfied customer.
I trouble shoot for GM Engineering as my employment.
See how easy it is to improve your engine's performance in this video where an 8.4 gain in horsepower was achieved just by changing lubricants. See the video.

i saw a product advertised a while back, it was a preluber, i believe it ran on a electric motor, you turn the ignition on to accessory and the motor would circulate the oil on a timer (i believe it was about 20-30 sec), it seemed like a neat little item but i did not have a car that would have needed it at the time, wish i kept the info

That sounds like a great idea. I'll have to do some research and see if I can find something like that.

Thanks. It looks interesting enough that I'll stick a plugged T-fitting in the system, for future possibilities.
