I have a few that look the same, they are not NOS but they have the S on the rivet. One is chrome. Is it really that rare?

It would only be rare if it was an original - that one isn't. The originals were chromated with a dark greenish/blackish sheen, not painted. Looks great physically, but the finish is wrong.
