:confused Does anyone know how the oil level sensor in the C-5's work? Got my 1st oil change and right after got the low oil level message about 3 times even though the stick shows full. Dealer says it has happened before in other vehicles after changing oil and they replaced the sensor. I've had a new sensor in my hand and I don,t understand how it operates, help!;stupid :beer :beer :beer

DrunkinPunkin,

I don't have a clue, but I thought bring this into the C5 Tech Forum may help you get your questions answered a little faster ;)

Let your Corvette cool down then check your oil level again. Add oil if it is not full (in the middle of the hash lines on the dip stick when car is cool). Start the car and see if still gets that Low Level message. Maybe they didn't let the oil settle in before starting it. Needs to settle for at least 3 minutes after changing the oil before you run it. Some shops are in too much of a hurry.

Oil level sensor uses the temperature of the oil compared with the coolant temperature. The oil temp should be within a particular range relative to coolant temp. This confirms the oil is draining back into the pan. The PCM monitors all this info and throws codes if conditions are not met.

The system threw a code possibly because cooler oil (fresh oil change) in a hot engine (coolant was hot) made the PCM think the oil was not circulating.

That code is automatically cleared after the engine oil reaches normal operating temp and is shut off for a minimum of one hour.

If the codes are gone now it sounds as though you do not have a problem, and never did. Sounds to me the system was working as designed.

If after a full heating and cooling cycle you are still throwing codes, you may need to get it checked.
