Hi, I am going to purchase a 71 LT-1 next week. I drove it for a short time and the oil pressure stayed at 70. I only had the car out 5-10 minutes or so. So, perhapsthe pressure would drop after a while. Could any of you tell me what pressure pattern to look for in the LT-1? Does it run higher in pressure.

I had this thread in the other 1988-71 forum, but I would like to hear about your LT-1's.

Thanks.

Dave

Dave; I'm going to assume that the 70 reading was under load and not idle. I will have to differ to other LT owners for stock readings, as I'm currently running a Melling High Volume Oil Pump. At warmed up temperature, the motor will idle at approx. 35, while under load it will hit and stay at 70.

Congrats on your upcoming purchase!

Steve

Oil Pressure

My 'fully stock '72 LT-1 will read 40-45lbs. at idle and 65-70lbs. under load. Save The Wave!!!

The LT-1 does have a noticeably higher psi. Cold mine runs 70, under load - 70, idle is 35.

Ditto. Although when hot, the PSI range drops a little -- approx 25 idle, 60 under load (+/- 5).
