ok I am going to buy 4 17x8 american racing tqII's and I want to put 235/40/17 on the front and 245/40/17 on the rear there should not be a problem this this at all should there be? Can I squeeze a bigger tire on a 8" rim? like a 255? Or should I stick with the original plan?

Thanks.

I have 255/50-17 on my 71 and love it. This size tire has the same overall diameter as the stock wheels, which fills out the wheel-well nicely. Only downside is some rubbing close to full lock in the front (only a problem when doing U-turns).

A 235/40-17 will be quite a bit smaller in diameter to stock and there will be a lot of air in the wheel-wells.

i don't know about 17 in rims , but i am running 255/60/15 on all four on my 77 with no scrubbing

I agree with you about the 40 series 17 inchers having alot of air-space in the wells, especially on the front. IMO, unless you get the car real close to the ground, it won't look good.

About your sizes: I tried 255's on my 72; pretty much the same car as yours; & I had alot of rubbing in the front (really scraped the finish off my front stablizer bar). I've got some 17X8's now & I'm gonna go to a 235 55R X 17; they're real close to the stock tires in diameter, but my vette's lowered, so they'll fill the wheel wells tight & I sure hope that they don't rub.

Any pics of your Vette, by any chance?

this is when it was still in california

I have had it like 6 months now. I is getting repainted lemans blue metallic, it is that new dark blue metallic that is on the special edition corvettes. And the rims and tires will be on, on wensday...I did go with 40 series tires so we will see what it look like if I don't like it I will get bigger ones next time.
