I read at one time that the paint job on the c5's typically have the orange peel texture standard from GM. But now I am not too sure anymore. A neighbor of mine is painting a solid top I got for my '97 and remarked today that my car looks like it's been re-painted because of the texture. He said the top he's painting will be flat..no texture.
I ran a carfax on this '97 before I purchased it and nothing came up about repainting or any repairs like that. I never asked the owner because I assumed it was factory paint. So now I am wondering about it.
Does the GM OEM paint have an orange peel texture? Is that the standard quality for corvettes? How does one tell if this is original paint?

I would say yes, it is the factory paint job....most all of the (non-metallic) factory paint jobs(GM, Ford, Dodge), in my humble opinion, are just crap. Orange peel galore. Some colors are worse (i.e. black).

Thanks...that makes me feel better......

I think....

Oh, I know what you mean. Reproducing factory orange peel isn't so easy to do. Many a restored/repainted car is, and looks better than what it did sitting on the show room floor. Base/clear is so easy to shoot, it's a wonder the factory robots don't do a better job....I like the latest commercials for the lexan(sp) painted panels, where the factory paint robots are playing cars, and the
intercom summons them all to the 'crash dummy' department.
