hi there guys,
just wandering r.e horns!
my loudest horn on my 1991 vette has stoppped working!
what could this be?

may be a relay?,
or loose wire?,
or may be the horn its self?,
or maybe spring /button inside steering wheel?
or may be a fuse or something?
any ideas on what it could be and where and how to test it such as where to connect test light and where is the realays located?

any help would be great, thanks so much guys!
have a great weekend!
cheers

Sounds like its the horn itself if the other one works...put 12 volts to it and see if it goes beep beep...check that its bolted in tignt...its its own ground

Can you remove the low one and plug it in in place of the loud one and verify the wiring, relays, horn itself.......just shootin' in the dark here....that should tell ya pretty quick if it's the horn or wiring....

Just get a test light and remove the plug to that horn , plug the pointy end of the test light into the plug you pulled off the horn between the plug to the horn and the other end of the test light to a ground .Beep the horn and see if the light ,lights up.
If the test light lights ,horn bad wiring and relay good.

Indeed the easiest way to check is to see if there's any life on the wiring by taking the connector of the horn and replace it by a test light / horn / whatever... as long as it's 12V. If this works, your horn fails. If this doesn't work it might be somewhere up the wiring. Just follow the harness and here and there see if there's any life action. Best thing to use is a test light with a sharp pin which you can sting in the harness here and there.

Good luck.

Hesitant horn

Surely check the voltage. But it's usually a corroded ground connection at the frame. Find it, unscrew it, clean it up with sand paper, etc. If the 'star' washer is missing, get a new one at a hardware store. Maybe a new screw too.
On my '95 the ground for each horn is a separate wire bolted to the frame near the horn (the horn connector has 2 wire leads). I don't know where the ground is for your year (it may be the horn mounting lug - if so there would be only one wire lead).
Clean up the grounds before trying to adjust the horn or the horn may get so far out of adjustment that it quits entirely.
Hope this helps.
