WOW! In 30+ years of Corvette addiction, I've never seen one of these! Someone needs to snatch this up really quick and put it in a museum. Those door graphics don't lie so it must be real - right?;LOL

In a stunning turn of events, I have just found this photo of the 1990 Indy 500 Pace Car that was driven by Jim Perkins. Man, that is a cool back seat in the back of that Vette:L:L. And that roll bar/b-pillar is to die for.

Must be just a coincidence that the graphics on the Cavalier are exactly the same as on the "real" 90 Vette pace car.....

Where do these people come from? They really need a :SLAP upside their heads :eyerole

Actually, it's a Beretta:D, not a Cavalier. Now, if one finds a Beretta Pace Car replica, they actually are somewhat rare and they really do exist.

Hey Eric! Call the police! Someone stole the graffics off the side of my car! AND the luggage rack (Always a nice touch on a 'Pace Car'.;LOL

You gotta admit that the interior looks very nice though. :L:L:L

Bookman,

But he says in the ad that the car was an actual race pace car. Only three Berettas and no other cars were actually used for pacing the race. However, that's pretty interesting that they built those vettes. You have pointed out yet another falsehood about the add, he says it's one of four and the link you provided says there were 50 teal and 30 yellow and they were for festival and parade use only.

Thanks for digging up the dirt:D.

To add to this -- the Beretta Convertible was only built for the Indy 500 that year. GM had plans to build a convertible version for the masses but never went through with it for whatever reason.

Corvettes are sometimes used as courtesy cars when a GM product paces the Indy 500. They were last used in 2003 when the Chevy SSR was the pace vehicle. They were all millenium yellow convertibles. Undoubtedly some will show up in the future for sale.

At the 50th Anniversary celebration in Nashville last month, I saw 6 of the 2003 MY " Indy pace cars" roadsters. They all had a set of Indy 500 decals and Michigan manufacturer's license plates on them. They were in a secured parking area at Titan Stadium but the guards wouldn't let us go into the parking lot but I did take some pics from about 50 feet away.

Out of curiosity, I emailed the vendor. Here's his reply and one of my emails...

Thanks for your interest in this vehicle. You are correct in that this Corvette was not a pace car used on the track (and our listing does not state that as well), but this is considered a pace car by the Indianapolis 500 due to its affiliation with the track.

We have contacted the collector and we will let you know what type of documentation is available on this vehicle. The party who owns this vehicle also owns franchised dealerships in Indianapolis and is a serious collector of these types of vehicle.

Thanks again for your interest.

Sincerely,

The V-Trade team

>Hello again. Mostly managed to answer my own question - see this web page . You're a little off on your facts, though - there were a total of 80 '90 Vettes created like this, 30 yellow and 50 teal, and they didn't pace the race at all but rather were used for parade and festival duty. I'm still curious if you have any documentation to prove that someone with a similar car didn't just slap the stickers on the doors. If it really is what you're saying it is, it's definitely worth something as a collector's item.

Hmmm, sounds as if he hasn't read his own listing. Here is a quote from the eBay listing which seems to catradict the sellers own statement...
You are looking at a one of a kind! This car was a Pace Car from the 74th running of the Indianapolis 500. This Corvette has less than 2100 original miles on the odometer. Throw the books out when placing a value on this rare vehicle. If your a serious buyer or collector and are looking for a one of a kind vehicle, this is it!
This car is one of 4 racing pace cars that are being sold by a serious collector on eBay.
Where's Ben Matlock when you need him:D.
