Bad news:
My brother is closing on his house and calls me and says that the banks "good faith estimate" of closing costs was a few thousand dollars short. He had a chance of either losing the house or at the very least setting the closing up a few months.

Good news:
I happen to have the extra cash so he won't have a problem.

Bad news:
It's from the Corvette rebuild fund.

Good news:
Family first and foremost.

Good news:
I pulled the engine on the Vette this past week. So it took me 2 or 3 days( I'm a weekend warrior, not a pro or anything close) and the block is the original.

Bad new:
The block is original. Now I'm even less sure on whether or not to upgrade my engine or keep it original.

Good news:
Hey, the engines already pulled I can always put it back in if I want! Now all I need is a 400hp engine to drop in!

Bad news:
Time to build the Corvette fund...again.

Good News.....

You're a Good Brother. Almost a shame you pulled the engine already, unless you had to due to mechanical failure, you could have gotten a couple more months out of it weather wise and the incident might have changed your outcome. Hang in there, it'll work out, and something else to consider, if you're going from a very low HP engine to 400 HP, you're going to need some "other" changes also. So maybe the rebuild fund will have to grow a little more.

You sound like a very good brother. We should all be so lucky to have someone like you. Your kindness will be well rewarded someday.

Even bigger rebuild fund!

Save the same amount you had been, have brother give the same amount to you until the $ has been repaid...you'll have TWICE the amount to spend!
Heidi

Sounds like you are a hell of a guy, all you had to do was put off an engine rebuild while you learn even more about the process and explore all your options.....

........while at the same time helping you brother get a home.

A better decision was never made.

Dave,

The good news is you are a very special person and brother.

The bad news is not everyone has a special person or brother like you ;)

Family is a precious thing. Being able to help family brings things back into focus ;)

Bud

Thanks for all the kind words.

Since I'm anxious about starting on the Vette, I'll work on the front suspension first. I wanted to do that anyway. I'll get a rebuild kit from VBP and get a move on it! First I'll be cleaning the engine compartment. MiIght as well start from the ground and work up.

jdads2......

Your a good bro, dude.
Life is only what you make it, and it sounds like your making it right. The Vette, afterall is only a car, family is forever.

But, I have some "GOOD/BAD NEWS" for you.......

GOOD NEWS:
"I am your long-lost twin brother. We were seperated at birth.

BAD NEWS:
"I need money too"

Corvette Craig, Mom told me about you!

Good news:
I'm finally happy to meet my evil twin:bash

Bad news:
Mom says you owe HER $$

MOM????:eek :eek

Ummm, ahhhh, wellll.......

"Tell her the checks in the mail"

;LOL:gap;LOL

JDads,

I agree with most everyone here. The set-back in time for your engine rebuild will allow you to better prepare what you'll want to do with your engine and other parts.

Like you said! "I''ll work on the front suspension first". That's the spirit!

I finally have the vette running, and in retrospect, I am glad that I had all that time to do things right. It even served me as a sort of "therapy" from the stressful times at work. Plus, you'll walk away with more knowledge and feeling good about your soul .

Congratulations! It's great to hear of good deeds toward family members.
