About a year-1/2 ago I put true duals, no cats, flowmaster exhaust on my 81. I am not a treehugger or anything, but I have a little guilty feeling about not being "legal" and aiding in pollution. I know that if I put 2 cats on, it is still not stock, legal, and all of that, but this will make be feel a little better. On top of that my wife complains about the "smell" that the car emits since removing the cats, and doesn't want to ride in it because it makes her clothes stink. Does anyone have this setup? I was wondering if it will hinder the performance much and the price. I think it will cost me at least $500 to buy two and install them, which is a tough pill to swallow for a car that sits in the garage half the year.

I am doing the same thing. While I am not required to pass any emission test a roadside check by the DOT and finding no cats the fine is an automatic $450. High flow cats run me $260 CDN for a pair of 3 inch ones and I at least pass the visual test.

Where is the best place to get them? I looked in Corvette Central late last night. Maybe I looked at the wrong place. You guys without cats, do you know the smell I am talking about? Do you think high flow cats will take care of it?

I don't think high flow cats will rid you of the smell, but may diminish it. I know the scent all too well.... I am addicted to it! Note my exhaust setup in my sig.

Rich idle mixture causes smell. Ever let the car idle in the garage and your eyes start to water/burn. Lean out the idle mixture and the exhuast stink goes away. I can idle mine in the shop without those burning eyes.

Have you ever smelt over heated cat's? It is like the smell of rotten eggs.:cry
