Currently the LT1 has 3.70 rear end gears. Well, here in SoCal the slow lane seems to travel in the 75 mph range and closer one moves to the center the faster we go, much like being sucked up in a vortex. Not quite as fun as the Autobahn but I can't have everything. I sure miss those hot wursts and mustard, sorry guys, it's the Porsche coming out in me. Anyway, have any of you lads changed your gearing to meet highway needs? I will not change to a 5 or 6 speed as the car is bone stock and the center support apparently would need to be removed and rewelded in and bla bla, can't bring myself to do that to the car.
I was thinking something in the 3.30 range. Car has M21 trans, of course. Opinions?
Regards Mike.

My '72 has the 3.55's with the M-20 trans...it's OK on the hi-way at 75...haven't been on the hi-way in months so I can't tell you what RPM's I'm turning...but it wasn't bad. I don't think the 3.55's would be the best option for long daily hi-way trips if your averaging 75 + MPH though.

Mike, I'm running 3:36's in my '72. But in my case, I am starting to grow weary of even that on the interstates. I plan to install a Keisler Tremac 5-speed O/D eventually. It is engineered to be installed without cutting the crossmember, just wanted to let you know that it was out there. Charles

No cutting?.............hmmmm, I like the sound of that. Well, I suppose this places a different light on things. No cutting.............I will go to the website.

3.36 in mine

I have a 3.36 in mine, which was originally a 4.11 (I still have the gears).
I've got a "ton" left at 80+ mph.
