Does anyone here have any recent experience ordering a corvette?

I ordered mine at the end of November and was told it would be here in March. Today the dealer told me that although the order has been accepted at the factory my car doesn't have a place in line yet. Lately they have been building nothing but 50th anniversary models.

I've checked the factory website and it shows they have been building 136 to 156 cars a day since I ordered mine. That seem like a lot of anniversary models.

Maybe I'm just getting anxious because the sun finally came out today, but how long should this take?

You should give Rick Daniel here an e-mail and maybe he can tell you more about this because he is a vendor. I believe he is under the vendor forum.

I know that they're building quite a bit of 50th's, but that shouldn't be a reason for it to take this long.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but....some friends of ours ordered a 2003 ZO6 last April on the first day they could place the order....they took delivery 2 weeks ago!!!! No explanation, no excuses, nothing...just about 10 months from order date to delivery date!!

Unacceptable, I'd say!

Elaine,

If I had spent $50K on a car that had to be ordered, I wouldn't be very pleased with that long wait that had no explanation.

With the minute differences in the 02' to 03' Z06's, could they have gotten a better deal for the 02' and still pretty much get the same car?

I totally agree!! And, believe me, a lot of folks were telling them just that!

Yikes, 10 months?!! Ctr66 - I agree, email Rick and maybe he can shed some light on this. I wouldn't / couldn't wait 10 months!! I struggled last year waiting from Feb til May.:v

ctr66,

I know that you put a deposit down on the car. And I hope that when/if the car comes in, you will get something for your extreme patience on this matter.

Can you get the deposit back?

You know that the Chevy dealer in Joliet is a very high volume dealer in Corvette's. If you can't wait long enough for Rick Daniel, I suggest you give that Joliet dealer a call. (note, if I am out of line for mentioning that, please let me know and I'll edit this post).

This site might help answer some of your questions about ordering. I ordered an AE in Jan. From what the dealer told me, goes along with what this site explains. However, this may only be an explaination for the AE models, I'm not sure. It would be worth a look.
Good luck.:Steer

Now I get it.

Thanks for the info. After calling Chevrolet and talking to other dealers I'm starting to find out more about the allocation process.

It turns out that the car I thought I'd ordered in November was never actually ordered. That's because the local dealer I went to wasn't allocated any convertibles for special order. This is not what I was led to believe by the salesman. In Janurary I was told that they weren't building convertibles at that time. In February I was told my order would be processed any time. Two days ago I was told that all they were building was anniversary editions.

All this time the salesman knew full well he had no allocations for corvettes and wasn't going to get one any time soon. Needless to say, I got my deposit back and cancelled my "order".

I then contacted Maxie Price Chevrolet. They tell me my order will go in right away and I'll get my car within 4 to 5 weeks, and the price was right. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for all the help. I couldn't stand the thought of waiting 10 months.

Good luck with your new corvette. Be sure to order a museum delivery. It would be a great drive from Bowling Green in May.:Steer

Hi ctr66,
I ordered my 2003 on June 6,... 2000. "Oh boy?!?!?!?", you're thinking. Well, it was then I learned that the first Corvette was built in 1953 and that there was in fact a 1983 Corvette, though on sold on the market. The choice was a 2003 Vette (50th model year) or a 2002 Thunderbird. Why the T-bird? 2002 was when the T-bird was coming back as a 2-seater sports car. The Ford rep blew me off when I offered to put down a deposit. Right now, I'm glad he did. Everything I have read about the T-bird says it is a "ok" car, but not a daily driver. The Vette, however, is everything as advertisied. The Chevy dealer definately got to know me during the wait. I got mine in August, 2002. What a ride!!!! I hope you get you Vette (can't just call it a "car"). And, most importantly, don't forget to wave.

That "salesman" would be floating in a lake two states away if that had happened to me.:mad

That's more like it. By the time it gets in, the weather will be perfect for cruising! Don't forget to :w

ctr66,

Glad to know you are moving on with your purchase of a Vette. I am trying to decide if I am going to order through my local dealer or go out of state. If I do choose to purchase a new Vert......then I will definitely think about the NCM Delivery in BG and take that long, enjoyable drive back to California.:J

Hope things workout to your satisfaction.
