ordering a new vette

on JUNE 15th i went to a dealer and ordered a 2004 corvette convertible....i was told it would be here in about 12 weeks....i have emailed the salesman and he said he still doesnt have a order number for me(JUNE27th).....should i already have a order number or does it take awhile for gm to get a order number out to the dealer.........the reason i ask is because i have never dealt with this dealer or ordered a corvette from the factory......i am on pins and needles and it seems like 12 weeks is a long time away already ....PS i did leave a deposit...thanks

HI there,
This is just about right, due to the plant shutdown for retooling for the 04 model year. Your number will really not be there for a little while.
Normally, the first models for the year come off the plant around July 10th, and they do validation testing.
