Have a 72 Vette and need to know how to figure out what original items came on the car i.e. the car currently has Black Leather which I know the original was Red Vinyl by code on car but what about the seat belts? It currently has only lap belts and I read on this site that shoulder belts were standard. So how do you find the facts on original item that came on this car like these?

Gene - Maybe youv'e "been there done that", but you can start with the NCRS at www.ncrs.org . They sell publications which describe each year (up to 1982 at this time) in detail what came from the factory - i.e. did my car come with lap/shoulder/both etc.. You can also have you car judged at a local NCRS meet which will give you a great education in one day. There is a Regional NCRS meet at the Waco Convention Center Oct 31-Nov 2 if you want to see what it's all about. You may already know about the NCRS. Let me know if you would like more information.

Guy is right, the NCRS is a good place for pubs with all the info you need. Also, is the tank sticker still on your car? If so, it will tell the story you're looking for. As for the belts, the shoulder belts were only standard on coupes so if you have a ragtop they were a very rare option. Removal of the belts came up recently in another thread, someone had removed all of the belts (shoulder and lap) form a Vette and the present owner wanted to replace them.
