original exhaust muffling?

Can I stuff a baffle up my original exhaust to muffle a bit of the sound?

I need to get the volume down before I take the car back to Australia as its going to be at an illegal volume =\

It's going to be illegal!? I didn't know that they are strict over there about that sort of thing. I don't think that it's terribly enforced here in the States. That's terrible to hear, dude.

Increasing the backpressure in the exhaust can do engine damage so be very carefull. Why not just put some mufflers on that are quieter, keep the old ones and put them back on when you get down under?

i should note:
The legal limits are 92db. And, im pretty bloody sure, my car is louder than 92db. They are sidepipes also. Any help! I need to check this coming weekend if it has any baffles in there.

Most police units own sound meters. Why not see if your local guys have one and find out for sure how loud you are. 92 DB is louder than you think.
