Hey guys, its time for tires and I know the subject has been posted before but my question is, should I go with original goodyears or go with a cheaper replacement? I have always put goodyears back on the vettes Ive had but now my budget isnt what it used to be. I dont want to hurt the originality of the car. I know that I notice what kind of tires are on a hot looking car when I see one, like when your at a car show or what not, so I guess what Im really asking is if you guys think it cheapens the car to put cheaper tires on it. I was looking at the Kumho MX but they really dont look like they have that much tread from the start and the BFG's tread pattern doesnt eaven resemble the tread pattern of the GSC's, so Im having a little trouble picking something else out if I go with the cheaper tires. Any suggestions or opinions?

As long as it's a good quality tire, who cares about originality (unless you're showing the car, of course). Just get something that fits in your budget that YOU like.

I had BF Goodrich on there the last 2 tire changes until they stopped making the model for the Vette. I think they were between models at the time (last year) so I went back to the Goodyear.

I dumped my stokc GY's and went with the VERY INEXPENSIVE (not cheap) Khumo ECSTA Supra 712's). Mounted them on chrome ZR1 replicas. I get rave reviews at shows. Have won many awards. The tires are about as aggressive looking as any on the road and the "hold their own" with the rest of my highly detailed yaller '95. The sidewalls when slicked up with what I call, "Cheap hoar tire dressing" really "talk" to the judges. Oh BTW, can't beat the performance in wet or dry either. I'll never go back. Matter of fact just bought Khumo ASX's for the other two performance sedans in the family.

I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT SOME FIRESTONE WIDE OVALS AND SO FAR I AM PLEASED WITH THEM ON MY 96 COUPE.ALMOST NO NOISE..REAL GOOD TRACTION WET AND DRY.PAYED ABOUT 900.00 FOR EVERYTHING....I HAD BFG BEFORE AND DID'NT CARE FOR THEM AT ALL TO MUCH ROAD NOISE.. GOODYEAR IS VERY COSTLY...I WAS QUOTED $1280 WHEN I WAS SHOPPING ARROUND..HOPE THIS HELPS .........JOHN

I have been running Goodyear F1 GS D3s for almost two years.

Phenomenal tire!

Wet or dry!

You can get them at Just Tires. They will work with you. You can get 4 mounted and balance for less than $1,000. Have them throw in Road Hazard!

They usually work off Tire Rack price sheet.

Negotiate your best deal!

SAVE THE WAVE! :w

I would recommend that you purchase the tire of your choice, without regard to originality. The Goodyear GS-C that came stock on your car is getting hard to find, and carries an exceptionally high price when compared to tires that perform significantly better.

I don't know if NCRS judging will deduct points for non- GS-C equipped Vette's when they get around to judging '94's (still a few years away).

I entered my '95 coupe in Bloomington Gold certification judging this year, and they didn't say boo about my tires. I have Michelin Pilots on the front, and had just installed Goodyear Eagle GS-D3's on the back at the time of judging. They did ding me for a wrong hose clamp on the upper radiator hose, as well as some noticeable finish wear on the alternator bracket bolts, so that was the level of detail they were looking for. BTW - the car earned Gold.

I bought the Eagles from Discount Tire Direct for $212 each (shipping included at that price), and had a local shop mount/balance for $35. Next year I'm budgeting for the fronts.

Good Luck,
Steven

I put ECSTA asx 275-40R17 on my 90. I was in the caravan from Damens to Bowling Green. Ask anyone that was there they will tell you we had downpours. I was able to run in that with no problem, they stayed glued to the road. They are called an all season tie but from the looks of the thread I don't think I would try them in snow. The dry road traction seems exellent. My price locally for $132 each mounted , balanced, and road hazard. One of the few tires with road hazard.

Goodyear F1 GS D3s.

I replaced the origional tires on my 93 last summer....had under 20,000 miles on them, but were starting to crack. The F1's are nice looking AND have a quite ride.

VERY INEXPENSIVE (not cheap)

Unfortunately, I think a lot of the expensive brands try to paint the portrait that if the tires aren't expensive, they must be cheap.

From all the Corvette guys I've read about that put Kumho's on, they're an excellent tire and even better when you factor in the price.

For now, I wouldn't worry about originality. Worry about that in a few years if your C4 is something that will be considered collectible.

Thanks alot for all the info. Ive decided to go with the khumo's. Probably the MX.

Actually I went with the Kuhmo ASX. I just spent my first full day with them and Im very pleased. The ride is much better then the Goodyear GSC's that were on it and there is no Tire noise to speak of, even with the top down.It seems to handle well to. At first I noticed that the sidewalls must not have been as stiff as the Goodyears but after a few miles and you get used to it, you dont notice it again. Thanks again. Your advise and opinions saved me some bucks and I feel like I got a good tire to.
