First time in forum. I picked up a "Barn find" a few weeks ago,it was a 283 fairly complete from carb to pan.Bolted to it was a pretty chevy blue complete powerglide cast iron transmission.
I do not know how long it sat but I am sure it was a long time,
I tore the engine down completely and here are the # and parts I reclaimed(saved from scrap yard). It had .030 over flat top 4 valve relief pistons in engine(cylinders don't look too bad)

Engine block Casting #3737739
Engine casting date "I37"
engine stamp F923DG
Intake # 3746829 date "F28"
Delco remy Dist 1110890 "7M9" ( metal band on neck)
Heads are no good ( 1960 passenger car)
GM Crankshaft # 3735236 .010-.010 under,date "I18"( I think)
GM Camshaft #3732798
Harmonic balancer with bolt on deep groove pully
17" tip-flipped fan
I was wondering if someone would be able to help me identify this engine ,I think it is a Corvette, but this is not my expertise and I would like to have the people that know their corvette parts help me out.
I did not want to see this crushed up and loose another corvette oldie,if it is corvette.
Thank you for letting me take part in your forum:)

Check out this page from the 1959 Model Center... click

There is a Block ID number listed as "373779"

In fact, here's a link to the Corvette Action Center Model Center click.

Hopefully that will assist you in your research too.

1958 corvette engine ID

Hi Jane Ann
Thanks for the heads up on the link. As you probably guessed this site is new to me ,but it seems like the place to go for good advice.

That block was used in '58-early '59 Corvettes (and many other Chevrolet applications). The "DG" suffix and September, 1957 casting date pegs it as a '58 Corvette 230hp base engine for Powerglide usage, assembled on September 23rd at the Flint V-8 engine plant.

The distributor appears to be a replacement (or swapped from a later engine), made on December 9, 1957.

The cam is most likely original - that cam was used in all hydraulic-lifter Corvette base engines from 1957-1966.

The intake was used on all '58-'61 Corvette base engines - that one was cast on June 2, 1958, so it's from another later car.

corvette engine ID

Hi JohnZ, thanks for the fast response and very usefull information
I said that I wanted to keep the engine in the corvette family,so it does not get scrapped.
May I ask how do I remove my original thread? and can I list this engine for sale on this site. If I can list it would you have a ballpark figure on what they are going for?
Thanks again for your time

Don't delete your original post - the rest of the thread won't make any sense to others. You can post your items in the C1/C2 Parts For Sale section. :)
