Our new CE is home

Got in late last night. Flew from Chicago to Dallas Fort Worth on Thursday. Inspected, tested, decided and purchased the CE. Drove from Dallas to Spingfield Missouri on Friday. Then from Springfeild the rest of the way home to Indiana on Saturday. The car is awesome. We got an LT4 CE convertible with Red interior. Took us a while to finally decide to travel to get it but none were available with these options locally. We are glad we did. The car has so much more power than the L98, the selective ride control is fun to play with, it gives the car different personalities, really changes the road manners.

We stopped at this Walmart in "Po Dunk" Oklahoma to pick up some new CD's since we forgot to pack some. I got "toys in the Attic" and "Chris Isaac, Heart Shaped World". My wife got "Lonestar Greatest Hits". The Bose sounds pretty good actually. I was impressed with it for being a factory system.

The car has Shorty headers, Power Effects exhaust and an Edelbrock TB. Those are the mods that I can see. I really wonder how much power it is making??

Things I need to do:

We need new tires ASAP The run flats are flat spotted it seems. I had to limit my speed to 85. More than that and an uncomfortable vibration results. The passenger door bump strip "been bumped" Off to the body shop for that. The "Mobil 1" tag is missing under the hood. I have to get an original "Grand Sport" TB plate. It has an Edy TB on it. Other than that all it needs is a good detailing and we are ready for cruise night again.

We had a great time bringing it home. Put 1050 miles on it the first two days. I hope that mileage trend does not continue for too long

Congratulations on the new car! Did the previous owner list all the mods that he did to the car? I'm sure it feels much more powerful than a L98. You're probably making 360 horsepower!

Congrats on your CE, I love mine. The "Mobil 1" tag did not come on all 96's. Mine doesn't have one so you don't need to be overly concerned there.

Since you mentioned the Mobil 1 thing, make sure you use synthetic, that's standard on that car.

Congrats on a real eye catcher. Like SJByrne says, not all 96’s had the Mobil 1 plaque. If your 96 was a late build, it’s likely that it will not have the Mobil 1 plaque. My LT4 was one of the later cars off the line, built the last month of production, no Mobil 1 plaque.

If you’re interested in keeping you LT4 vert for a long time and are wanting to replace any LT4 specific parts, you may want to jump fast. I tried to purchase new LT4 black plastic fuel rail covers (red lettering) only to find that the driver side is no longer available. I had two dealers do a search across the country. The passenger side was available, a total of 76 are left. I bought #77. The “Grand Sport” throttle body plate was readily available.

My next purchase will be the LT4 red spark plug wires!

Funny thing. In your photo, with the car at *just* that angle, and you and the missus obscuring the windshield, it reminds me of my other favourite car - the Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona Spyder. I've never noticed the similarity before.

We have a 96 CE coupe LT4 w/Z51 and black interior. We only have 24,000 miles on her and just replaced the original Goodyear GS-C tires. There are lots of good tires out there but after much research and talking to others in our club we bought Firestone Firehawk SZ50's. Compared to the GS-Cs, these SZ50s ride much smoother and are extremely quite. They are also much better on wet pavement. Oh yes...we don't have po-dunk towns in Oklahoma...only small, rural communities with less than "what you are use to" amineties.

Whats the matter with "Po Dunk"? We have Po Dunk towns in Indiana. Great little places to visit. Sometimes the largest festivals are in the smallest towns around here. The covered bridge festival in Nashville Indiana draws people from several states. You can walk through town in 10 minutes. And they dont even have a Walmart.

You're right. If you want to call them "Po Dunk". Most of our weekend cruises are off the beaten path and major highways. And, you usually find great little restaurants in Po Dunk.

If you came up US75 (or I35 for that matter) from DFW you probably did indeed go thru Po 'Dunk! :L But that's Ok. (lahoma)
