I want to change or rechrome one of the outside door handles on my 75. I don't guess that I can get this off without taking the whole thing apart? I know if i get in there something else is going to break or come off. Any suggestions?

Crause,

I had taken mine off, then re-installed them later. I didn't brake anything, but it was a major pain in the hand for me. You need little monkey hands to get in there!

Maybe if you have young kids, they could get there hands in there. Perhaps I just did it the hard way.

I have two suggestions.Buy new ones they arent that expensive.Youll spend more time and money getting them rechromed.

And when you reinstall them, dont tighten them all of the way.First you chance cracking the fiberglass and second Ive noticed that if you tighten them all of the way alot of the times makes the operation of the door handle stick.

Thanks for the tips paintdaddy. I ordered new handles today and will be putting them in when my car comes back from paint.

After I did mine the hard way with magnets and open end wrenches a friend of mine who runs a corvette shop told me I should have taken the screws on the back edge of the door out of the lock assembly. That lets the lock fall out of the way enough to change the handle with out needing little fingers. I was too mad to try it again on mine, but every other trick he ever gave me worked. Hope it helps you.
