LT4 overheat

1996 vettte coupe was running great took in to find a/c coolant leak . went to breakfast mech called said car is done replaced schrader valve recharged freon. went to pick up car, started car was running like shit WTF looked at temp guage pegged past 260 mech swears he only moved car about 10 feet fro inside garage to parking spot outside . any idea's im stumped car has compprogram set to turn fans on at 160 3" alum radiator.
