Paint chips and paint codes!!!
I recently sustained a nice size chip on the hood of my '59, which measured about 3/16" in diameter. After some searching on the net, I came across a company called paintscratch.com and ordered a 1-1/2oz bottle of roman red single stage paint, primer, and the necessary finishing products.
I also checked on the availability of paint for a few of the members in my club and found that, although paintscratch seems to have most all paints and proper codes for all makes and models, they did not have a '62 fawn beige (RPO920) and the '94 copper metallic (???).
After following the precise instructions and polishing the final time, I was unable to detect exactly where the chip was! The process worked so well, I ordered a 16oz. spray can of single stage roman red for an area on the door jam that measured approx. 2"x 6". I was somewhat skeptical due to the size of the repair but again, this area came out exceptionally well.
A word of caution if purchasing their products..... HAVE PATIENCE and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS SUPPLIED!
They supply quart cans, base coats, primers and clear coats for the later year vettes and the prices are reasonable, and shipping is practically next day.
Good luck and let me know how some of you make out with your chips etc.
