I been trying to figure how to judge the amount of clearcoat I have left before I have to quit rotary buffer/etc.
I got this green coupe that I want to get the water etchiing off.
And touch up dabs of paint/wet sanding.
There must be some point in the operation where I have to stop before i get all the way through the clear.
Anybody ever done this?

I would check with a paint shop to see if there is such an "animal"?

There is such a thing as a paint depth guage but it cant be used on corvettes as it uses magnets to work. You will know when you have went through the clearcoat because the metallic will start to look distorted.
