Well, its time to start thinking about paint. My question is this, the silver anniversary came with factory stripes. These stripes look to be stickers and if not stickers then very thick paint. If it is a sticker then do they have to be completely removed before painting can begin? I know in some cases, that you can lay primer right over the old paint, can this be done with these decals or not? there is no peeling and adhesion is very strong, I dont think they would peel off even if I tried. To remove them, I would have to sand them away.

Also, any good general paint prep guidlines would be greatly appreciated. I am going to attempt to do a very nice paint job i.e better than stock, so any good products or info sources would help alot.

Thanks,
Tom

If you don't remove them you will be able to see them under the new paint. If they are stick on stripes try heating with a blow dryer, this will loosen the glue then pull them off.
Good luck

They do need to come off.Heat gun works good ,also the paint stores sell what is called a stripe eraser.which is a rubber disc that straight grinder. Also paint stores sella spray woodgrain and decal remover,it works well too.

thanks, that is what I thought I just wabted to make sure.

Is it ok to leave the old paint as long as it's still on there good or do I need to take it down to glass before I spray a primer?

And what paint company would you all suggest to work with for supplies, or do they all sell the same stuff?

thanks,
Tom

You dont have to take it down to glass but you dont want to paint over thick paint either so if it has been painted before which most c3s have by now,it probably needs to be stripped. As far as products to work with they are all the same either online or the paint store.Anything 3m is good and paint companies vary. There are a handful of main companies but the main thing is to read the directions and to try to stay with the same paint system throughout the process.Between me and Junk we could walk you through it.:D
