other than using lacquer thinner and scrub pads is there another way that can be used to srtip primer off a fiber glass body without dying from the fumes. I am stripping my 63 have all the paint removed and now am trying to get the primer off any suggestions would be great.

Why would you need to do that? You need to wet sand it starting with about 250 grit paper and work your way up to around 600 grit. Get yourself a stur-stick (just a regular house paint stick) wrap the wet paper around it and have at it. You then can reprime (using high-build primer)and do the whole thing all over again. Once you get it primed and sanded...then you can hit it with no sand epoxy primer...then your top coats Its not rocket science...but takes patience.

Paint removal

Hi!

All the research that I have completed on paint removal suggest that you leave the red primer. You do not want to have the fiberglass fibers showing through the new primer. I used a PPG polyester primer/filler # MX241 gray over the original red primer and sanded it with 320grit paper. GM did about the same by spraying a gray primer over the red and using the gray as a guide coat. I primed with a red primer and sanded with 400 grit paper before the application of the Gleen Green lacquer so that I would have the same dark base. I think the car turned out very good. If you have used any chemical strip, insure you wash the body very well before appling any paint.

I would try a DA with 180 grit and work it out to 400. I would then seal it with House of Kolor epoxy primer. Are you going to leave all the factory imperfrctions and body waves in there or do it the wat thje designers envisioned it?
