I was thinking instead of constantly fighting brake dust , that i would paint the inside of the wheel rims black so the dust doesnt stand out on the grey painted rims . Has anyone done this or thought about doing this on thier Vette or other cars ?

I had not thought of doing that, but it sounds like a pretty good idea. Are there any slick teflon like paints?

REPLY: Well, i finally got around to doing it last week. It turned out super. Makes the wheels look great. I also painted some of the suspension components which you can see thru the wheel spokes. , so everything is blackened out when viewing the wheels. Sorry dont have pics. I used POR15 black paint ; ive used this paint before and it is excellent stuff. Dries very hard. I used degreaser first to get every bit of dirt off the rims, then applied it using a sponge brush which gives it a real smooth look. Im very delighted with the way it turned out. IT would look nice with your yellow body .

REPLY: If you decided to paint the inner rims black, they sure would look good with you standing next to them ! :)

I agree with Sharondippity: please post some pictures.

REPLY: I dont have a digital camera or scanner, and i dont know anyone who does, ... so, cant provide you with pics. You are always welcome to come over for some ice tea here in northern illinois if you like to see mine , or, if you want to see what it would look like on your own wheels, take a sheet of black poster board and lay it around the inside of the rims then stand back and decide if you like it or not.

A MUCH easier alternative is to just not clean the inside area of the wheels and let them get dark on their own. This method only works if you put a lot of miles on the car. Works for me!

REPLY: YOU DIRTY BUGGAR !

Never thought about painting the inside rims black, but am very concerned with the dirty and rusted look on that part of the car.

The rear rim on my 05 C6 is big enough to get your hand in with a scotch brite pad and get rid of all the dust, but the front you get squeezed by the brake caliper. To move the car or jack it to rotate and clean them all the time is like, well, yeah, right, but ill do it for a show or something.

I can continuue to beat up my hands washing the inside rims, however I cant take the rust, and discoloration of the suspension parts.

I have purchased some ceramic caliper paint and after wire brushing the ends, insides, and every hole in my rotors, Im going to paint them. That will at least get rid of that ugly rust, just cheapens the whole car.

As for the suspension parts, dunno about black, not when their cast in natural aluminum. So Im thinkin goin the wire brush route, (I use one on a drill, a very cheap one with fine bristles that almost polish, not gouge) and then hittin all the peices with a clear coat.

What . take apart my rear suspension and send them out to be powder coated? On a C6? I guess only in a perfect world...
