Paranoia 1, Leaking gas tank

I heard some noises on my way home from school today. So when i got home I went to the back of the car to check it out. With the little light by the spare tire I saw that the spare was wet somehow. Im thinking gas, everything smelled like gas back there though cause im running a bit rich.

I drop the spare down, and grab a second light. This is what the tank looks like:

Most of it is a nice silvery color, the half closer to the rear of the car however is kinda goldish and covered in grease etc. I have almost a full tank and I dont see anything leaking.

I call this post paranoia because this weekend I helped change a leaky tank in a z28.

My question: Is color an idicator of a leak? Id smell it more, but it all smells like gas to me.

Sounds like something you need to check out thoroughly, and soon! The leak may not be the tank itself, but it is not all that hard to drop it to investigate.
