Does anyone know of a source online to identify a part by chevrolet or GM part number. I need to know to verify which parts belong on which year, like a part number like 7017320 on a FI unit. Does this number belong on a 61 or on a 62 corvette or part number 3779552, an early cast iron bellhousing, being advertised that it came off of a high performance corvette. Any guidance is greatly appreciated! Vett62:):)

Chuck,
I noticed that you'd posted another thread that was a duplicate to this one so I got rid of it for you.

7017320 is a 1961 Rochester Fuel Injector ID number.

I can't help you with the bell housing. Maybe one of our other members more familiar with your model year can assist with that part number.

BTW - Here are a few links that may be of interest to you:

Jane Ann, Thank you very much! I am looking for a source to check all chevrolet part numbers, on line, on internet, or published. I am a former auto theft investigator so I have a lot of knowledge about cars, but I need to be able to check numerous different vehicle part numbers and casting numbers, especially for the 1955 to 2000 years of GM part numbers...I had a guy try to convince me that the number 18436572 was a part number rather than the GM v-8 firing order...dumb,dumb,dumb but I've seen cars registered in California by firing order as the vin, block casting numbers as vin, and also have seen stolen reports where the casting number on the back of a chev small block, that was in a boat, was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System as the motor number...

The series of "Chevrolet by the Numbers" and "Corvette by the Numbers" books by Alan Colvin are an excellent source of Chevy component information, as are the NCRS 1953-1967 and 1968-1982 Pocket Spec Guides. The full editions of the Chevy P&A Parts Books have part number indexes at the back that tell you which Group number they're in, in the main section; they pop up on eBay regularly, but they aren't cheap any more (glad I found mine many years ago). :)

I'm not aware of any on-line site where you can plug in a part number or casting number and get a usage; you have to have the references and know how to use them.

Thanks John,

Do you know of any hardback parts books available for purchase that would cover 55-66 Chevy part numbers and or casting numbers for any GM parts as to original application or what it is supposed to fit? Thanks again, Chuck

I think the "Hollander" parts interchange books used by the salvage yard industry and rebuilders have that kind of information. eBay and Google searches might turn up something.
