76StingRay!!

Guest
Hi All! I am currently deployed to Iraq, and my wife bought me a 1976 Stingray about 3 months ago. It is all original and looking at pictures she has sent me I can see that the frame and suspension seem to be all original still. I have been contemplating a partial restoration on the frame, suspension, and fuel system. I was just wondering if anyone has had this type of work done and if so where would be a good place to get it done, and roughly how much am I looking at spending on doing it. I would greatly appreciate any help as this is my first vette and my first classic car. Thanks!

Hey 76 stingray, "Thanks For Serving!" I can't help you with the restoration questions, but I CAN welcome you to the Corvette Action Center, and congratulate you on getting your first Vette. I got my first one 2 years ago, right after I turned 60. LOVE THAT CAR!
Enjoy all the info and people on the forum, and enjoy restoring that Vette. There's a boatload of knowledge here as well as a bunch of people who are willing to help and share. Till you get back though, "keep your head and ass down!!" Been there--done that.

Costs will vary across the country and will be dependent upon how much of the work you can do yourself.

Good luck over there.

I served in the military and balanced Corvette modification/maintenance too. I did the majority of the work on my first Vette between field exercises, deployments, and gunnery qualifications. You can visit my web page and take a look at the black Vette.

It can be done!

Thanks for serving our country. Your question is too open ended to answer. You need to find a reputable Corvette shop and have them give the car a once over and an estimate. You can drop big bucks doing a suspension rebuild. I would get the estimate, then drive it for a while and see what it feels like and what needs to be done to make it drivable and enjoyable. Shocks are the cheapest and will give you immediate results. The best thing you can do then is research, read, and read some more. See what others have done and ask lots of questions. If you walk into a shop with an open checkbook they will empty it real fast.

Corvette suspension can be tricky for someone who is not familiar with them. Find a local Corvette club and talk to the members they will know where to get the car fixed correctly.
