passenger mirror
Thanks for the information, I disassembled the mirror assembly following the shop manual, and found there is a really cheap compression "washer" holding down a spring the size of a good sized pencil. Pretty stout. And as best as I could determine, the "fix" would be to remove the door panel, speaker and harness to the mirror, remove the motor from the mirror, and compress the spring and reapply the compression washer. Checking the metal shaft holding the washer and spring, showed the washer had basically chipped away at the shaft, but could be re-attached, but would most likely loosen again, and nope, couldn't get those vise grips in the mirror housing. If Chevrolet had asked me or any other vette owner, we, or at least I would have suggested nut assemblies on a threaded shaft, so the problem wouldn't happen, and make a wire harness disconnect in the mirror so the whole harness wouldn't have to be removed via the interior, to remove the mirror motor assembly sans harness from the inside....but Chevrolet didn't ask me and I suspect, didn't ask anyone else cept some pointy heades professional engineers with no pratical experience maintaining things.....so look out local dealership, I'm coming in.....again, thanks for the information.....MikeNMcDonough
