I am using Torque on my android phone to log trans temp, oil pressure, rpms, coolant temp and oil temp through an ELM327 OBDII scanner. I am getting reasonable results for everything but Oil Temp. It is off by 5 to 20 degrees and does not appear to track the gauge at a constant rate. The PID I am using is 221154 (HEX). Has anyone been successful in logging oil temp and can you tell me what PID you used?

thanks

bill

Are you assuming that the gage is accurate?

What does the IP's digital display give you for oil temp?

I would never assume anything, whether it be the digital display of oil temp or the HEX value I am getting from torque. My question had more to do with verifying that I am using the correct PID. If you can tell me I am using the correct pid then I can investigate why the difference is occurring....am I using the wrong equation to convert the value provided? or am I getting the correct value and there is something broke in the sensor or ecu.

thanks

This is why Hib thought you were trusting your gauge. You could point a temp gun at the engine temp sensor to get a base reading for comparison. At least you'll know whether the app or vehicle gauge is off.

I do not know if you are using the correct PID.
Good luck.

I don't find a specific reference to the oil temp sensor in my Service Manual. I do find an oil level sensor that is shown on the passenger side if the oil pan. However, it is also referred to as "sensor oil lvl & temp" on a schematic at gmpartsgiant. Is this the temp sensor that you are referring to? and if so it looks like the only exposed piece that I could aim a temp gun at would be the part that has the electrical connection. Would getting a reading there approximate the real oil temperature and how close?

thanks
